With more restriction on internet gambling and the casino gambling age, the addiction to both will be lessened. The addiction to casino gambling has struck many adults, especially since they have a lot of access to it. Atlantic City, New Jersey and Las Vegas, Nevada are home to the biggest casinos, millions of gamblers, and plenty of adults who fell victim to gambling’s challenges and seemingly worth-it rewards.
As the age limit remains at twenty-one, there will be less gambling addicts. There are about 1.6 billion gamblers in the United States, and 4% to 6% of gamblers are addicted (http://gambling.addictionblog.org/how-many-people-gamble/). The restriction on the casino gambling age is needed to prevent more addicts. If the casino gambling age is dropped to eighteen we will not only have more crime and more bankruptcies, but also more people to fall under the category of Problem Gamblers, or Compulsive Gamblers. Both categories name people with an inability to resist gambling. Eighteen year olds are still just kids, and shouldn’t be given the opportunity to jeopardize their future and possibly ruin their lives.
On the other hand, many people are opposed to internet gambling because they feel it will cause more addictions if legalized. However, many people are still addicted to it during a time where it’s not legal; therefore they cannot seek help without being in trouble for gambling online in the first place. There are many organizations to help gamblers, and the most well known would perhaps be Gamblers Anonymous. They have local groups and they meet in different parts of the each state. Most of the groups are in different parts of New Jersey and Nevada. With these groups, addicted internet gamblers will be able to get help and get better if internet gambling is legalized by the states.
